If anyone’s an expert in safety, it’s Alex. During his military career, he was an Explosives Ordnance Disposal Technician and team leader. A Sergeant in the Special Operations Engineer Regiment of the Australian Army, Alex was deployed in various lines of operation ranging from rapid airfield clearance to domestic counter terrorism. As a Combat Engineer and military instructor, Alex trained cohorts of up to 40 soldiers – from the rank of private to commissioned officers – in all aspects of military engineering. He has served in many front-line humanitarian disaster zones. Alex managed a 15-man Specialist Engineer Team overseeing their professional development and training. He was awarded a Commanding Officer’s Commendation for his tireless work during Operation Padang Assist: The Australian Defence Force’s emergency response to Indonesia’s devastating earthquake of September 2009 in West Sumatra in which more than 1100 people died. His roles there included commanding the clearing of landslides, the reconstruction of a vital bridge and transporting emergency and essential supplies in hazardous environments. That’s the backdrop to Alex’s civilian career in emergency response, security planning, risk assessment & management. He has detailed experience in compliance, incident management and reporting and workplace health and safety. Alex is our newest member of the FERST family, starting in January 2017.
