As a former RAAF Air Field Defence Guard and NSW Rural Fire Fighter, Matt has a strong passion for public safety and emergency management. In more than seven years’ frontline experience, Matt has managed operations during the 2010 and 2012 floods of the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga for the NSW State Emergency Service and assisted in the operations management of Task Force Delta: the NSW SES’ first response team to far North Queensland in the aftermath of Cyclone Yasi, as well as the 2014 Wagga Wagga bushfires. Matt holds a Bachelor Degree in Emergency Management from Charles Sturt University as well as Certification in Training and Development in Public Safety for fire-fighting, SES operations and SES rescue. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Emergency Services and a graduate of Emergency Management studies. His other roles include: Operations Officer with NSW State Emergency Service, Training and Development Officer with the NSW Emergency Services Division of the Australian Red Cross and Fire Mitigation Works Crew with NSW Rural Fire Service. Matt joined FERST in January 2017 to head up our operations in the Murray-Riverina district and outlying areas. In his spare time, Matt enjoys volunteering for the Wagga Wagga Unit of the NSW State Emergency Service and is currently providing leadership in emergency management coaching for Team Leaders and Officers.
